Boys and their toys

I thought this day would still be a little way off but no it has come today.  My boys desire to shoot guns!

As a farmers daughter I have never disliked the idea of boys playing with guns, however I was never certain on when it would happen, or more to the point when I WANTED it to happen.

So I was a little bit apprehensive when I walked into the Crazys room this morning to see them shooting each other with the end of their wooden ride on horses.  Somehow my boys have grown up overnight.  Last night they were riding the horses through the house, this morning hunting!

So where do I stand now with boys and guns???  They are currently shooting birds outside with guns I have made them.  I don't want to be the pedantic, nagging mother telling them to be careful and watch out.  I want them to be boys.

Its funny, I read a blog entry from a mum of 3 boys on the same issue here and kept thinking, when will it be my turn, when will I face this, what will I do??  I didn't think it would be my turn a few days later!

I am slowly giving them rules in relation to guns, but at the moment it is just shooting a Duplo Blocks gun at sparrows out the window.

In reality I have to remind myself that when they have close family members who frequently go duck and possum hunting, that they are going to be exposed to guns perhaps sooner rather than later.  Start educating now I guess.

Raising hunter/gatherers in this household.
