Project Restyle #3

Finally got it finished.  My fantastic, fabulous Dad wipped up this board for me, then my super duper lovely juvely hubby painted it, then I painstakingly cut out the lettering with my Cuttlebug and voila!  They are stuck on using Decoupage Paste and then have a coat of it over the top - I think the paste is similar to Modge Podge.

Anyway, what do you think?  I have since added a Jute string heart and red button to the bottom right corner, but it is drying and looks bad at the moment.

Cough cough, sniff, cough

Goodness Gracious Me!  I thought our winter dose of bugs last year would surely fill our quota for this year.  NB:  House bound for 3 months with winter bugs.  Thankfully this year we have only had about 2 colds in the house so I guess I can't complain.

At the moment though my poor eldest crazy is terribly unwell.  Well I say that and yet there are moments in the day where he is running around with his brother, or they are singing 'Shake Your Bum Bum' while wearing their pants on their heads!  Oh don't you do that in your house! Whoops.

Anyway, our poor mite has been to the Doc twice this week having terrible coughing fits.  I was only able to count between 4-5 seconds between each cough for about an hour.  After the second flying visit to the doctor, looking like death warmed up, and a new prescription for more steriods, he then decided he wanted to be Mums little helper - go figure!

Notice the smile and total look of enjoyment!  Well this lasted for 3 minutes then it became a game for them to switch it off and on.  When Mum came stomping in Crazy 1 realised that Mum wasn't smiling so quickly dropped it and said 'Mum I'm not well'.  Seriously - BOYS!

Project Restyle #2

Do you remember these super dooper exciting white squares?????

Well check out these bad boys!!!!!!

So stoked with how they turned out - Mr W "Yeah they're alright" - hymph! *sigh*

Anyway if you want to give it a go, this is what I did:

Cut 3 30x30cm squares and paint (we primed them first, then spray painted)

Work out how big you want the circle and how far apart you want the nails (its over to you)

Hammer in nails - make sure they have a decent 'head' on them to hold the wool in place

Now for photo help (well hopefuly)

1. Start by tying the wool on your start nail.

2.  Pull the string tight across to another nail on the right side of your start nail (it is over to you as to how far around you go - go a small number and you will get a narrow pattern, large number you will get a wide pattern.)  E.G I counted around 16 anticlockwise from my start nail.  Go around the second nail from left to right

3.  Bring wool back to start nail on its left side so the wool through the middle crosses over, around the back and across to the nail on its left (wrap the wool right around the start nail).

4.  Now start again using this nail as your start nail, and the nail on the opposite side to the right of the other nail.

Got that?? :)

The boys are back in town

Our extended family has extended even further with the arrival of our first nephew.  He is SCRUMPTIOUS!  In fact he is so cute that number 3 for our family keeps coming to mind.  Fortunately my terrible morning sickness is still fresh in my mind.

What you looking at - PUNK!

Having a Nigella Lawson Morning

I have been in the mood for cooking this morning.  Perhaps its due to the supermarket delivery man appearing on our doorstep this morning.  Oh if you don't get your groceries delivered, I would highly recommend it.

Started out with making some toasted muesli, then moved on to this:

No Cook Hummus

6 cloves garlic, minced
5 tbsp tahini
Juice from 2 large lemons
1/3 cup olive oil, plus 1 tbsp (for browning garlic)
1/3 tsp salt
1/8 to 1/4 cup water
3 cans chickpeas (5 cups), drained and rinsed thoroughly

You don't need to use the most expensive brands - ya!
Brown the garlic in a pan with 1 tbsp oil over medium hear for about 3 minutes.  In a large food processor, add the tahini, lemon juice, oile oil, salt, browned garlic and one cup of chickpeas.

Process the mixture until everything is mashed, then add another cup of chickpeas and process.  Reat until all have been added.  * Add some of the water if the mixture becomes too dry.  Blending should take place for several minutes, until the hummus is smooth and creamy.

Fresh buns, shaved ham, avocado and fresh hummus for lunch today!

Boys and Puddles

Seriously!  What is it with boys and their need to jump and run in puddles.  My boys take it one step further and have a bath in them - including washing their hair!

All morning I was being super strict on making sure they didn't go near the puddles as it feels like it is Sub 0 degrees outside.  I made it all morning without having wet size 2 and 4 pants, until the kindy pick up, there was the tiniest puddle in the carpark and my kids managed to find it!

Two sets of wet socks, wet shoes, wet pants - thankfully there was no hair washing today.

SERIOUSLY!

3, 2, 1 Blast Off

Look what the boys and I have been doing over the last two days.  So stoked with how they turned out.  Another tick off the project list - now to do something for me!

They are SO proud of them - can't wait for all the glitter in the flames to be picked off and scattered through their beds!  NB:  Read with sarcasim tone! :)

Yes they are virtually identical - needs to be otherwise there are arguements as to who's is who's!

Project Update

Remember that FABULOUS table I bought at auction???  Well here it is in all its bare glory.  Sanded, rubbed with Turps (discovered hideous Borer holes), and ready for the last of its make over.

And these........hmmmmm two white squares, that's really exciting.  Well actually there are three (eekkkkk) and they aren't finished.  Come back and see the results!  (soon hopefully, just need the temperature to increase so they can be spray painted!)

Sunday Night Meals

Righto who has the best easy, no fuss Sunday night meal?  My poor hubby and Crazy 1 are currently sitting at Park Island watching a friend play soccer.  What, wait!  Why did I say POOR, it was their decision to go, no one was MAKING them go exactly.  Oh and I should mention it is POURING with rain and feels like it is about 2 degrees outside.

Crazy 1 couldn't understand why I didn't want to go - THIS MUMMA HAS GOT BRAINS!!!!!! That's why.

Anyway - dinner.  Seeing as they will no doubt come home freezing cold I'm thinking sausages, spaghetti, chips and eggs sounds good.  Do you have any other ideas???

Unfortunately for us our two boys eat a can of this EACH!

Music Making

Oh boy I wish you could hear the carnage going on in my house at the moment.  Crazy 1 singing at the top of his lungs to try and be louder than Crazy 2 who is currently playing the drums on a tin biscuit tin with a pen.  Its fabulous.  Who needs order, calmness, and peace in their day???  Not me thats for sure.  Perhaps I may join them.

Recipe - Cravings

Hmmmmmmmmm I have unfortunately discovered this devine slice.  It doesn't look like your usual gooey goodness chocolate caramel slice, or ginger crunch, but it is OH SO YUMO!!!!!

Chinese Chew

125gm butter
1dsp golden syrup
1 egg
1cup flour
1cup sugar
1cup coconut
1cup raisins
1tsp baking powder

Melt butter and G/syrup together.  Allow to cool (I am usually too impatient so don't!) then mix in egg.  Mix together all dry ingredients in a bowl and add the butter mixture.  Mix all together and spread in a sponge roll tin.  Bake at 150c until cooked (I know thats helpful, I cook mine for 15 mins then about another 10 - you want it to have a nice golden top).  Cut it into squares when hot.

YUMO!

Spaceship Bedrooms

I am slowly (well very slowly) decorating the boys rooms in a spaceship theme.  They are crazy mad about spaceships.

It started off with new duvet covers:

Then of course you NEED to have a jet pack:

Vinegar bottles wrapped in silver card/tin foil and streamers
And no space room would be complete without a space suit and helmet:

Thanks Aunty
Next on the agenda?  Planets, rocket, stars on the wall.  Oooooo I could go on, but it would be just my luck that next year it will be farming they are into.

Project Restyle #1

O.k so I was so excited to have a new project, let alone a fabulous new table, that I stupidly forgot to take a before photo!  Whoops.

So here it is in the auctioneers catalogue photo - its the 4 legged dark table sitting on top of the chest of drawers.  Swooooooonnnnnn  Love it.

Maidens & Foster Auction House

Project Restyle

Righto introducing the new segment - Project Restyle.  I have a computer file filled with fabulous home decor DIY projects and this blog is hopefully going to give me the motivation to get cracking!  Otherwise I'm sure you will get sick of looking at the Crazys!

First up.......Yesterday I went to my first ever Estate auction at a Napier auction house.  My oh My, I could have parted with a lot of dollars!  Thankfully I had to leave to pick up Crazy 1 from kindy so missed the two important ones.  I had left Mum with a figure I was willing to pay - lets just say the opening bid was my limit!  Sheesh.

Anyway, I have a fabulous display table that I picked up for $30.  Needs some work done so will share some photos of the process.

Photos soon........

Crockpot Meatballs  - 7.30am

Say it with me - FAIL!

No I wasn't cooking them for breakfast, they were last nights dinner that came out like a big pile of gloop!  Couldn't face the clean up last night!

Fav Recipe at the Mo

I LOVE this spicy Chilli - it is a regular at our house.  One big fry pan batch lasts about 10 days for Mr W and me for lunch everyday.  Super easy and cheap ($3 a day for lunch) when you spread it out over 10 days.

Dr Johns Chilli

1kg mince
1 onion, chopped
2 tsp crushed garlic
2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp celery seeds
2 capsicums, chopped
2 tins red kidney beans, rinsed
2 tins chopped tomatoes
2 tins Watties Just Add Sauce - Mexican flavour
Approx 100g cashews, crushed

Brown onion and garlic in a small amount of oil.  Add and brown mince.  When the mince is just about all brown stir through the spices (adjust for your taste buds).

Add remaining ingredients except cashews.  Stir well then leave to simmer for 10mins.  Crush cashews and add to the pan.  Simmer for 30mins.

Freezes well.

YUMO!
